Haunted Portraits

My Research/Image Bank:

scary dolls.PNG
For this shoot, I have chosen to focus on a haunted effect and mood, using two young girls dressed like two haunted creatures or dolls. This being the reason for why I have researched and created an image bank of young girls to older women posing in haunting photographs creating a very intense mood and effect.
AO1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.
My camera settings within this shoot were placed on...
Exposure 1/60 sec, F/4.0 and an ISO of 720.
For this shoot I also used the studio equipment with stronger lighting to help highlight the make up that I applied to both subjects faces as well as the black background sheet so the more haunted effect helps is highlighted.

My Contact Sheets:

Throughout my contact sheets I underlined the best ones in green whilst the others I underlined in red to show the worse. This therefore highlights the difference between my best photographs and the ones that may require the most improvements.

These photographs I considered to be the best of this shoot which I will then further edit for my final photographs to be complete. I believe that these photos are the best as they show potential of a final haunted mood and effect, once being edited.

Images that need Improvements:

AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
I chose these photos to be the ones that need the most improvements due to the off lighting in most, as well as some having a lack of focus given from the subjects being photographed. I have found that this was a common problem throughout all of my shoots during this dramatic portraiture project.

AO2: Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.
During my editing process I changed some into black and white, completely losing their saturation. Whilst others I only took away the saturation to a certain extent, still leaving some there and others I increased the saturation. There were also other tools used, within Photoshop like; contrast, brightness, curves, levels and colour balance. All working to create the final edited photographs which I believe to be quite a success.

My Edited Images:

AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.

At the end of this shoot I believe that the black and white edited photographs were my best as they gave the most haunted mood and effect, which was obviously the overall aim of this shoot. I still believe that the other photographs were a success as they still also give off this mood and effect. I plan to proceed with another/extended haunted portraiture shoot as I enjoyed this as well as being very happy about the overall outcome.
