Face Distortion Portraits

My Research/Image Bank:

After completing a shoot following the inspiration of Wes Newman, I decided to follow through with a further face distortion shoot. Therefore, I gathered further research images where the photographers have used different types of materials and objects to distort the face.
AO1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.
During this shoot I applied the settings of camera to be placed on...
Exposure 1/60, F/4.0 and an ISO of 400.
I took a much brighter approach to this photo shoot as I felt it would highlight the facial features that have been distorted within the portraits. I decided to use both soft box lights but no sheet of background and rely on the lightly coloured, brick wallpaper.

Throughout these images I have underlined my favourite images in green. Whereas, there are a couple of photographs that may need improvements that have been underlined in red.

I chose these photographs to be the best of them all as they show a clear distortion of the face using these different materials. During this process I used bright studio lighting to hopefully highlight how much the facial features are being pulled and pushed in strange ways, that almost looks painful for the subject I have used in this shoot.

AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
These photographs I understood to need the most improvements as some are both over and under exposed in terms of lighting. Where as, others there is a lack of focus as they are blurry or the subject was not focused on keeping contact with the camera.

AO2: Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.

During the editing process of these photographs I trialled with quite a different range of different types of choices. For example, black and white, bright coloured, less saturated and a coloured tint. Whilst also enhancing the contrast, levels and curves tools.

My Edited Images:

AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.

In my opinion, this shoot had its own overall success and showed a clear further shoot following the shoot inspired by Wes Newman. I believe that this shows my process throughout my component 2 mock piece of how I can further develop my work. I also really enjoy the different editing skills I used to express all different types of moods within each photograph.
