Dain Yoon Inspired (Experimental)

My Research/Image Bank:

After researching Dain Yoon I discovered how interesting I found her work. She focuses on the idea of the creating an illusion on to hers and others faces. I plan to use her work as an inspiration for a following shoot. I complete a number of face paints onto faces possibly using her style of work to create an illusion also.

AO1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.
For this shoot inspired by Dain Yoon I plan to use face paint and create a number of patterns upon the subjects face.
During the process of this shoot I used the camera settings of...
Exposure 1/60 sec, F/4.8 and an ISO of 4500.
Furthermore, I also used the studio equipment for this shoot but carried out a much darker outcome. I used only one of the soft box lights and relied more on the flash from my camera. This way I managed to highlight the different colours of face paint used and apply a more vibrant effect.

My Contact Sheets:

Throughout my contact sheets I have underlined the best photographs with green to make it very clear. As well as, underlining the photographs that need improvements, within the contact sheet, with the colour red to show the clear difference between.

My Best Images:

These photographs are the blown up versions of what I considered to be my best from where I previously highlighted within the contact sheet. I believe that these represented the best within this shoot because they copy the inspiration of Dain Yoon's style of photography and art.

Images that need Improvements:

AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
These images were clear to be the ones that need most improvements as the lighting was off in the majority of them, as well as some appearing to be slightly blurred and not in focus. There was also a lack of focus from the subject being photographed. I believe that the first face paint could have been improved by painting half of the neck to make it more clear that it was a side profile of a face.

My Editing Process:

AO2: Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.
During my editing process I struggled to decide whether to edit the first different painted set into black and white, but to keep within the style of the photographer and artist. Dain Yoon always creates her work with bright colours within either the face paint or the skin colour. Therefore this being the reason why I have left the photographs in colour and actually edited them to have a higher contrast and slightly higher saturation.

AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.
These photographs have been edited into higher contrast and saturation which I believe has improved and became a success for my final edited images. I believe that this shoot was a success in terms of the final edited photographs and using Dain Yoon's style of work for my inspiration. Therefore, I feel as though I have followed her inspiration quite well and showed my own version of her work. I think in further shoots I would like to experiment with the colours and maybe create a surreal colour experiment within a portrait.
