Photography A1 Mock Project
Surrealism Portraits
My Research/Image Bank:

For this photo shoot I have decided to purchase some different coloured contact lenses where some will also glow in the dark. I will be completing a contact lenses shoot as well as a shoot using LED lights and neon paint. Both of these shoots should hopefully create portraits with a dramatic sense and still highlight an aspect of colour surrealism.

The camera settings for the shoot with the coloured contact lenses were placed on...
Exposure 1/60 sec, F/4.5 and an ISO of 500.
However, for the UV light effect within this shoot the camera settings were placed on...
Exposure 1/50 sec, F/3.5 and an ISO of 12800.
As a form of dramatic portraiture I would like to complete a shoot portraying across surrealism in the sense of colours. This being the reason that I have gathered an image bank of potential ideas of using different colours such us neon face and body paint as well as vibrant contact lenses.
AO1: Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.
My Contact Sheets:
Throughout these images I have underlined my favourite images in green. Whereas, there are a couple of photographs that may need improvements that have been underlined in red.

My Best Images:
I proceeded with two shoots both including different colours and types of surrealism. One including extremely coloured contact lenses, as well as, neon coloured face paint. During my neon face paint shoot I used LED light bulbs during my set up of my own studio. I chose these photographs as my favourites and the most successful.

Images that need Improvements:
AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.
I chose these images as I consider them to be the worst of all my photographs that I captured during this shoot. I believe that there is a lack of focus from the subjects that I used, however this is expected during a portraiture shoot. One of the reasons I chose to photograph dramatic portraiture is due to the fact that I enjoy interacting with the people I photograph, which can sometimes show lack of focus in the photos. There is also some of the photographs that the lighting is off in terms of either under exposed or over exposed.

My Editing Process:

AO2: Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.

My Edited Images:

During this editing process I changed most of the photographs to black and white which I believe enhanced the definition of both boys freckles and features of the face. However, when I took away the colour I excluded the vibrant colours of their contact lenses using the snip tool kit as well the select and mask tool. This still had the effect of colour surrealism but made it stand out more with the black and white surroundings. I also changed around the saturation on other photographs but still making sure that the extreme coloured contacts still stand out and represent the surrealism within these portraits.

AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.
During this dramatic portraiture project I feel as though this shoot was a success. My favourite photographs would have to be the ones edited in black and white where the boys appear to be crying. Even though these tears only occurred due to the contact lenses irritating the boys eyes, I believe this achieves a very intense mood and effect that links well to dramatic portraiture well. In conclusion, I believe that this shoot will stand to be one of my most successful shoots within this project.
