Independent Shoot 2 (Formal Elements):

Pattern and Texture

I have decided to focus on the formal element of Pattern and Texture to refine my previous work and photographs that I produced beforehand. I feel as though this formal element was one of my weakest topics that I produced. This is due to the chosen photographers I researched not showing much influence in my final images that I produced. Following this independent shoot I plan to focus on the subject matter of still life whilst highlighting as sense of an abstract effect within the objects I photograph.

Researcher Influence:

Throughout these images I have circled my favourite images in green. Whereas, there are a couple of photographs that may need improvements that have been circled in red.

My Best Images:

I found that these images were the best within my whole contact sheet. I believe this is because most captured the extreme detail that can highlight the different patterns and textures within still life objects and elements.

Images that need Improvements:

However, this group of photos were found to the images that needed the most improvement for future reference in my shoots. This is purely because a large amount of the images are completely out of focus and have created an over blurred image. Others seem to have the focus on the wrong parts within the frame, as well as another being effected by lighting and shadows in the centre of the frame.

AO3: Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.

My Editing Process:

During my editing process, I changed all my photographs to black and white to create a stronger link to the photographers I previously researched and used as inspiration for this independent shoot.

AO2: Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.

AO4: Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.

As an overall independent shoot, I believe I made improvements to my texture and pattern topic within my formal elements project. I believe there is a much stronger link to the photographers Edward Weston and Sebastio Salgado, who I used for inspiration in this project.
